Kate nodded a hello to Ironman the infamous Tony Stark. She had watched him on the news and had done some research on the man. Kate flushed a bit when Stark flashed her his killer smile, she was really humbled to be in the presence of such great heroes and men. Now, the other gentleman who had entered with Mr. Stark, Kate did not know. He seemed rather silent and kept to himself, surely this man wasn’t a hero. For the life of her Kate could not figure out who this man was. She didn’t want to be rude and demand to know who the hell the guy was, but it was beginning to irk her rather badly.

Glancing over to Stark and Captain Rogers, Kate took a deep breath and calmed herself. Standing she slipped over closer to Captain Rogers, looking at the maps and blueprints.

“So what’s the plan Captain?” Her voice was assertive as she fell into the role of teammate.

“Alright, there are entrances through the sewers that lead up into the warehouse that Agent Galaeus and Agent Romanoff are being held. Here and here” He gestures at the two points on the maps. “We’re going to go in covertly, that way while team one is distracting Loki we can go by and get our people out of there. Then once that’s done, we send them off with Hawkingbird and Spider-Man to escort them. Tony, Dr. Banner, and I will then take the fight to Loki and end it there. Top Priority are the hostages, but we have to get Loki before he gets killed by Thor. We need him, just for information, and then that’s it.” He looks around the room, “Any objections?”

Tony couldn’t help but notice the incredulous glances Kate was shooting in Banner’s direction. His own eyes went to Banner and he smiled. The scientist must’ve not look like much to anyone who didn’t know about his alter ego. He was about to tell Kate when he decided it was more fun to leave her guessing, plus that Captain had immediately begun divulging his plan. The entire time, Stark’s eyes were everywhere but on Rogers or the maps. Despite his relaxed posture, Tony was giving the discussion his ful attention, bringing every ounce of his considerable intellectual weight to bear on the rescue at hand. “Sounds good.” Stark clapped Rogers on the back. “We’ll just zip through the sewer, pop up, make the rescue, and kick Loki’s ass. All in a day’s work.”

Bruce raised his hand, “How do you expect the Hu- .. The Other Guy, to fit in the sewers without destroying anything?” He wasn’t fond of sewers, there were rumors that Emil Blonsky had escaped and disappeared into the New York sewer system. He didn’t want to have a run in with Abomination when there were more important things at hand. “I’d really rather not bring down the entire warehouse on top of us.”

Making her way down the hallway Kate finally had found the room that Captain America resided in. She paused at the door contemplating whether she should knock or not. This wasn’t exactly a social call. Taking a deep breath she decided on simply opening the door. She scanned the room then spotted Captain America over near a table with papers strewn all across it. He seemed to be planning and deep in thought. Kate cleared her throat and walked over to the table.

“Captain America, I’m here as you requested. How can I help?”

She stopped by the table glancing at the papers on it, they looked like blueprints of the sewers. Kate also seemed to be the only other hero other than Captain America that was there. Glancing about the room once more she wondered who else might be joining them or if it was to be Captain America and her.

“Good to have you, Hawkingbird. Take a seat. Mr. Stark and Dr. Banner will be here shortly.” He was in deep thought, his voice an unwavering monotone. He was studying the maps and he already had formulated a plan of action. Attacking from underground would give a good advantage, element of surprise and all that. Steve was memorizing the maps, this was personal on an odd level to him. He had been part of the team for about a month now, and Echo was the one person he actually felt connected to on some level.. Other than the obvious and somewhat eerie psychic connection.

“That’s an idea.” Tony said, scratching at the stubble on his chin as the car rolled into the parking garage beneath the skyscraper. Purpose filled each step Stark took as he made it into the elevator, patiently waiting for Banner before touching the button of the floor he’d left Rogers on. “Well hey, I’m finally getting you up to Stark Tower one way or another.” Tony joked as the doors chimed open and he walked briskly through the metallic doors. Tony knocked on the door frame as he past through the threshold of the doorway. “Heroes are here.” Tony stated with a broad smile. His eyes flicked from Rogers brooding over all of the printed maps to Kate, the newest addition on the roster. “Hi.” He said moving around the table so he could sit on top of it.

Bruce just walked in and quickly took a seat. He inwardly smirked at Tony and his playboy tendency and then pulled his laptop out of his bag and set it on the table, opening and activating it. He browsed through the data he had already stored as he waited for the rest to get to the team table.

Kate was still in a state of surprise as she readied her equipment. She had received a call from Captain America requesting her aid on a covert mission; he hadn’t given her many details over the phone which was understandable. He had told her to meet him within the hour at Stark Tower and to get there undetected.

Making one last check of her things Kate swung her quiver onto her back, fastening it in position then slipped her mask on. She not only carried a quiver full of arrows and a bow, but also two battle staffs strapped to her left thigh and a sword. Nodding in approval she moved out. Slipping onto her custom made Ducati she was off. She had the motorcycle made to fit her needs as a “hero”, speed and silence were two of the main qualities she required the bike to have. Fortunately, it did. It wasn’t completely silent but it was much more quiet than the regular issued Ducati. It suited her perfectly, she was even able to store extra weapons on and in the bike.

In no time she was in down town Manhattan speeding towards Stark Tower. Kate had done as much research as she could on the infamous Tony Stark well before he was known as the Iron Man. The building was nothing to the pictures she had seen, it was most definitely a wonder of a building. Soon she was next to the building, placing her bike out of sight. She analyzed the building before calling the Captain to let him know she was there and on her way up to meet him.

He got Hawkingbird’s call and sighed somewhat in relief that almost the whole team was assembled. He took the plans Tony had printed for him and started to go over it. Good places to infiltrate from, some in sewers some int he underground subway stations. He immediately started to write down different vantage points and places where his team could infiltrate and where Team 1 could barge in for the distraction. Whereas the attack on the HYDRA base had to be done with his people coming in through the windows, they could come up through the floor. That would give Loki quite a surprise.

Tony looked across at Bruce as the seatbelt sign lit. “He requested blueprints for the building along with sewer and tunnel maps. Apparently he wants to strike from underground but I don’t know anymore than that.” Tony said, picking up his water bottle and taking a small drink. “Everyone else is already arriving at the tower. I guess once we get there Rogers will fill us in and we’ll go straight into action once everyone has the plan.” Tony shrugged.

The plane touched down a few minutes ahead of the ETA. Looking out the window as the engines shut off Tony could already see the car waiting for them. “Shall we?” Tony asked, unbuckling and standing up, giving a little stretch. He climbed down the steps from the personal aircraft as he spoke. “The other plane landed about twenty minutes before us and the patients are on their way to the secure medical facility. You can check on them once we’re in Manhattan… or after this whole thing is over and we get Agent Echo back.” Tony said as Happy, his long time driver, opened the back door of the Bentley for them.

Bruce gets up and follows Tony, he gently rolls his neck and stretches one arm before leaving the aircraft. He sat in the backseat with Tony, nodding his head as his friend told him about the other aircraft. “If we can do this quickly I’ll be able to check in on them as soon as possible afterward. For all we know, Loki is the one that set this virus. It’d be good to get some answers.”

Steve was ready. He hadn’t prepped like this in years, quite literally. The last base he had stormed was the main HYDRA base. He didn’t bring just his shield with him this time, he had a small pistol in a holster on the inside of his shield. Just in case. He had used pistols and some forms of semi-automatics before. His shield was the primary weapon though and the pistol just in case he needed a weapon just after throwing his shield.

He looked like he hadn’t slept in weeks, which honestly was very close to the truth. Tony should be on his way back with Banner, which is a good thing. They could both use Dr. Banner’s scientific expertise and The Hulk’s strength and power. It will be a good team up again.

He laid out the plans, still needing the map of the sewer and tunnel system that lead up to and go under the place Loki was keeping Echo and Agent Romanoff. But he had the basic attack plan ready to put down and mobilize once he had the maps. He should ask Tony for them, since this wasn’t a SHIELD operation. He pulled out the communicator ear piece, and called Tony, “Mr. Stark, I need the plans for the sewer and tunnel systems that run directly through Stark Tower to the place where we picked up Echo’s signal.” He hoped Tony had actually gotten the signal of the tracking chip, that or was able to trace the high frequency signal that was allowing Echo and Steve to communicate via brainwaves.

Tony stood, staring out of a small circular window down at the unidentifiable ground when he hear Rogers’ voice in his ear. He brought two fingers to his right ear before he answered him back. “I’ve got them.” He said simply. “We’re still in the air but if you’re still at the Tower I can have them printed there.” He said as he pulled his phone out to bring out the blueprints Steve had asked him for just after they’d discovered Peter. He and Banner had been wheels up for nearly three hours now and according to the GPS on Stark’s phone, were just over Pennsylvania which gave them less than hour till arrival. Steve most certainly seemed to have a plan but he couldn’t judge it’s worth until he heard it in it’s entirety. He seemed keen on wanting to bring this thing underground, something he was yet to inform Banner on. Right now he just needed to placate Banner with ensuring the safety of the quarantined South Americans. “We’ll be there within the hour.” Stark added, glancing down at the titanium bracelets around each of his wrists.

Bruce sat in one of the seats across from Tony, listening in on the conversation. “So what’s the plan? I assume the Captain has one.” In his mind there were a few thousand scenarios going through his head, not one of them he liked. He really didn’t need to release the Other Guy and have the whole of New York get trashed just because of him and a claustrophobic space. “And when do we mobilize?”

Bruce lead the medic team to the house where he had his patients and walked alongside each bed to make sure they were secure on the plane. Once he was satisfied he boarded the jet that Tony was on, and took a seat across from him. “Well, they’re all secured, thank you Tony. For doing this..” He was obviously still worried, but he decided he might as well ask what all is going on. “So what’s the situation? I heard Loki kidnapped one of the SHIELD agents and broke some new kid’s foot.”

Tony was already sitting with his seat belt buckled across his lap. He quickly unbuckled and stood up at the sight of Banner. He held up his hand to stop Bruce’s ‘thank you’s’. He held his hand out to Banner. “Good to see you again Dr. Banner.” He said pleasantly. He sat back down in order to regale the scientist with everything that had happened only hours earlier. “He kidnapped Agent Galaeus, I’m not sure if you met her before you left but Rogers has some sort of communication with her and I was able to pin-point her location.” He finished explaining and the plane leveled out in the air. “The kid is Spider-Man or Peter Parker. He’s still in high school but he has DNA mutation that gave him his abilities. Pretty interesting stuff. Smart kid.”

Bruce shook Tony’s hand and sat down. He listened to everything that happened and then Tony told him about Peter. His curiosity was peaked, genetic mutation in the DNA that didn’t have anything to do with gamma radiation or turning into a monster? Interesting by Bruce’s standards. “So where is Loki holding her?” He moved uncomfortably in his seat, trying to find a comfortable position to sit in.

Tony’s eyes shut for a moment before he re-opened them and answered Bruce. “I do. And I can get more.” The benefit of billions of dollars. “Seven,” Tony repeated allowed. Quarantine wasn’t exactly what he wanted to hear but he could work around it. “Yeah, that wouldn’t be ideal.” Tony said. “I can send to planes. One for you and one for the lucky seven. All the equipment will be on board. How’s that?” He asked, not sure if there was anything he could add to it. “Round ‘em up Banner, you’re commin’ home.” He said, putting the phone on speaker again so he could text instructions to the pilots. “What’s your twenty?” Stark asked, ready to take down the longitude and latitude to add it to the pilots’ instructions.

Bruce sighed. “Alright. Just track my phone to the coordinates, I don’t exactly have a way of figuring out my own longitude and latitude here.” He packed up his stuff and explained the the families that he was taking the patients to a place where he could cure them without killing them or mutating them. Once they were back in stable conditions and no longer contained the virus he would send them back as soon as possible. “I’ll be waiting outside for the jets. Are you coming yourself on one of them?”

“Even better.” Tony said flatly, as he switched a few things around on the thin slate of glass. “I’ll be there.” Tony said before saying goodbye and hanging up. From the coordinates provided by Banner’s phone Tony was able to identify a long strip of road that would act as a make-shift runway. A car was waiting for him when he went downstairs and drove him to his private hanger at JFK. Both planes already sat out on the runway when he arrived. He was quickly assured that the other plane was equipped with everything he requested, taking their word Stark boarded one of the two planes. The inside was absolutely luxurious. Tony sat in a large tan leather chair. They were barely in the air when a company flight attendant came by to ask him what he wanted to drink. Too everyone’s surprise he asked for water and a bottle of Fiji was set in front of him. He thanked her before setting his feet up on the mahogany table and pulling out his phone to look over the stats on the new Spider-Man suit he was collaborating with Peter on.

His neck hurt when he awoke. He couldn’t remember falling asleep but the scenery outside was no longer clouds but tree tops. “Buckle up Mr. Stark.” The woman from earlier advised with a smile. Tony nodded, sitting up and strapping in just before the wheels touched down. It was a surprisingly smooth landing and from what Tony could see, the plane equipped with the medical equipment had arrived first as people were already milling around it.

Bruce lead the medic team to the house where he had his patients and walked alongside each bed to make sure they were secure on the plane. Once he was satisfied he boarded the jet that Tony was on, and took a seat across from him. “Well, they’re all secured, thank you Tony. “….I can’t Tony. I’m trying to save lives here, there’s a highly deadly virus going around the town I’m in. Still working on a cure. Sorry, Tony… I can’t come to New York.” Bruce was being sincere and he felt guilty that he couldn’t come help fight Loki. Again. But he was needed most, here, where there were lives at stake and something that could easily spread around the world if given the chance.

“We’re trying to save lives too, Banner.” Stark brings the phone back up to his ear. This is going to take more convincing than he anticipated. “How many victims?” Tony asked, rubbing his temple with his free hand. “Quarantine level?” Wheels in his head are beginning to turn but he’d rather not have to go to that extreme. “You’re a member of this team. We need you.” His voice is more pleading than he’d like it to be but Tony doesn’t want to run the risk of attempting the rescue with out him. “It sounds like an epidemic.” He said quietly. “What can I say to get you here?”

Bruce sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose before rubbing the slight stubble that was growing on his face. “Do you have the equipment for SAFE gamma box extraction? It’s the only thing working on the virus and keeping it in one place instead of spreading.” He looks over at the multiple beds of patients, “Seven patients. And yes, Quarantine level. I don’t want it to spread all over North America from a normal hospital.”

It took everything he had not roll his eyes at Rogers when he divulged that he knew that Stark hadn’t alerted Fury. However, it didn’t seem like the star-spangled spanks was going to bring it to S.H.I.E.L.D.’s attention either, at least not yet. Tony stepped out of the room as soon as Peter was in a chair. He briskly exited and went into the empty hall of the 35th floor of Stark Tower. Once again he slid the glass from his pocket and found Banner’s contact information. He hit call and held the phone to his ear. “You better answer.” He whispered into the receiver, answered only by another ring. If the Avengers were going to handle this, they were going to need everyone and while Bruce may have flown back to South America he was still a part of the team. Tony leant against the nearest wall and his eyes bore up at the ceiling as he waited for an answer. He was already anticipating excuses and he had a rebuttal for each one. If he agreed to come back, Stark would have him on a plane in an hour.

He was surprised his phone even rang. He hadn’t given anyone but Betty his number, not even Tony Stark, though Bruce trusted him and respected him. He was still a cautious man, it was a force of habit after so many years of staying off the grid. He picked up his phone and answered it, attempting to keep his voice monotone to make it sound like a voice recording, “This is the phone of David Bruce Spencer. Please leave a message at the tone. If I don’t know you, get the fuck off of my voice mail.”

“That’s cute, Banner.” He had a sneaking suspicion but at least if he was wrong he’d just be talking to a voice mail. “Loki has escaped Asgard and taken Agent Galaeus. He left Peter Parker beaten to a pulp. We need you to come to New York.” All of it came through the receiver before he gave Banner a chance to say another word. “Where are you?” His voice was direct and punctuated. Tony took the phone away from his ear and put it on speaker so that he could assemble a jet. He didn’t have an answer yet but they couldn’t afford to waste time either way.
